Caroline
realised how much she enjoyed writing while she was at
secondary school. She got immense satisfaction
from writing essays for English, History and Classical Studies,
and she started to get serious about poetry. As a student
at Otago University, she continued to write, and she wrote
a great
deal: apart from course assignments, she kept journals, penned
poems and letters. (Examples of her prose and poetry are
given under the section "Writings".)
